African American and Africana Studies Minor

The African American and Africana Studies minor is designed for students who are interested in gaining knowledge and information related to Africa and its diaspora. The minor focuses on all aspects of the social, political, economic, religious and cultural developments and changes that are related to the African diaspora, particularly as it relates to North America.

Coursework

Required courses (three credit hours):

• AFAM 1113: Introduction to Africana Studies (DH) 

To complete the minor, students must select 15 additional hours from courses like Black Popular Culture, African American History, or Race, Politics and Sports. Courses are available in a variety of CAS departments including American Studies, English, history, geography, philosophy, political science, psychology and sociology.
